MIGRANTS SOUND

The spider web of the great Flemish composers around 1500

The composers of this program were all "migrants": if you were to trace their travel routes on a map of Europe, it would appear as if they were covered by a spider's web. They are all Franco-Flemish composers who achieved the highest level of quality and expression in the period between 1450 and 1600 - the golden age of Renaissance music.

Most of these composers obtained their education in the cathedrals of the "Netherlands" - a region corresponding to modern-day northern France, Belgium, and the southern musical Netherlands.

In search of permanent employment as singers and composers, they traveled through European countries to find work in the Vatican, at the courts of the Habsburgs in Spain and Vienna, at the court of Rudolf II in Prague, the Medici in Florence, the Sforza in Milan or the area of today's Bavaria.

The program with MOTETS & CHANSONS takes you on a journey through Renaissance Europe.
